On the BC Platform…

What do your clients like about using BC?

Our clients love the fact that they can get everything in one solution from one provider and don't have to worry about learning 6 different software suites just to run their online business.

Clients also love BC because they will always receive new features and upgrades without having to worry about their online business becoming outdated or reaching “end of life” as is the case with many open source solutions. BC comes with top notch support which means our clients spend less time being frustrated and we spend less time answering support calls. Also, the administrative back-end is very simple, easy and intuitive and WON'T intimidate even the most computer illiterate clients.

How is developing on BC different from your previous development process?

BC has allowed us to slash our development time and cost by over 50%. Previously, we would have used a framework like Rails or CodeIgniter to deliver custom functionality, but with the BC Web App framework, we can build a robust business application in less time and for less money. BC gives us an advantage over our competition by allowing us to cut corners without sacrificing quality.

Unlike most open source content management systems, BC provides complete documentation and a dedicated support team that answers questions and provides support via email, online and in real time. BC also networks their Partners in order to share knowledge, provide expertise and foster community.

What are the strengths of BC compared to other systems?

With other e-commerce systems we always needed to integrate 3rd party solutions, and find work-a-rounds. With BC's all-in-one approach we can stay within the same framework for the entire development cycle thereby making things easier and ensuring that every feature is native to the same system. We have started recommending BC for every client that needs e-commerce or CRM functionality.

BC is also a SaaS solution which means our clients will continue to get updates and new features and we don't have to worry about installing patches, upgrades or doing server maintenance as BC takes care of everything.

On Being a BC Partner…

What are your favorite aspects of the Partner Program, and why?

Our favorite part of being a Business Catalyst partner is that we get access to a team of professional support engineers who can assist us AND our clients to achieve just about anything with the system. We can also network with other Partners all around the world to share knowledge and expertise.

BC's Partner portal gives us one place to view all of our customers, accounts, trial sites, sales training, support tickets and more at a glance.

Looking back, how do you feel about your decision to become a BC Partner?

Our decision to become a Business Catalyst Partner was one of the best decisions we have made over the last few years. Our only regret was that we didn't do it earlier.

As designers and developers we're very passionate about what we do. The Business Catalyst team shares our passion and has bent over backwards to ensure that we have everything we need to craft highly functional websites for our clients.

How has BC helped you grow your design business?

We recently signed a contract with a major health food seller because we were able to provide a solution that gave them everything in one package and for less than what many other firms were charging. With BC we have been able to sell more sites, make more money and save more time. If we were to develop this particular solution with CodeIgniter or Rails, it would have cost around $45,000+. Using BC, the total cost was down to under $15,000 and the development time was cut down to about 1/3 of what it would be if we were using Rails.

BC is not only for designers. Developers will love the speed at which a custom application can be built using the Web App framework and the time it will save them. BC also comes with an API that allows developers to extend the reach and capabilities of an already feature rich and flexible system.

Show Us Some of Your Work on BC…

  • Guardian Lutheran Church and School

Guardian Lutheran Church and School was in need of a website they could use as a resource to run their events, perform community outreach, be a direct line of communication for teachers and parents, collect donations, provide private secure areas for staff, faculty and members as well as sell School paraphernalia and perform fund raising online.

After reviewing several open source solutions and a handful of custom built, hosted CMS's designed exclusively for churches, it was apparent that we were going to need something much more powerful and flexible in order to meet the diverse needs of a large Church and School.

Business Catalyst allowed us to build a website on time and on budget that provides both Church and School with the features they need to expand their reach into the community, cater to the members and students, provide faculty and staff with an official medium for communication and cut costs all at the same time.

The site makes use of many BC features including blogs, announcements, event bookings, e-commerce, web forms, literature, photo galleries, customer database, email marketing, RSS feeds, forums and more. We even built a custom homework section for teachers, students and parents, a custom announcement module for important events, and a custom podcasting web app so the Pastor could put his weekly sermons online.

We are also planning to build a online gradebook, a family and student directory and several other apps that will allow Guardian Lutheran to expand their online capabilities, cut their costs and consolidate all 3rd party applications into one web based interface.
